Hey everyone, Wallysson here.
One of the questions I get the most is some version of this:
"Alright, I play Pokémon. How do I get to Worlds?"
And right after it comes the second one: how many points do I need?
The answer is a bit disappointing: that number doesn't exist. A Worlds invite isn't a minimum score, it's a ranking. You need to finish the season among the best players in your region, and how many points that takes depends on how much the rest of the region scores. It changes every year, and nobody knows the number until the season is over.
What you can do is understand the path: which tournaments exist, how much each one pays, and how the invite is decided at the end. That's what this guide does, in the order you'll run into each thing, starting at your local store and ending at Worlds in Singapore, in August 2027.
The League is where it all starts, and it's worth zero points
The foundation of everything is the Pokémon League. It's the casual meetup at your local store, for fun: you show up, play, trade cards and get to know people. There's no competitive pressure, it's about playing and learning.
Here's something important that almost nobody knows: League results don't count toward any ranking and don't award Championship Points. Zero. What you get there is 1 Play! Point per League season, up to 12 per year, plus the prize packs with promo cards, which is pretty cool when you're starting out.
And that's fine. The League isn't where you score points, it's where you learn to play without losing anything. If you've never played a tournament in your life, that's the place. Seriously.
